Tips for Contacting Legislators About Florida Forever
1. Find out who your legislators are. Go to www.vote-smart.org,
which has a database of all elected officials searchable
by ZIP code.
2. Call your legislators on the phone (Some legislators
do not regularly review their e-mail.) If you have the
chance
to speak to a legislator in person, please take advantage
of it. This is by far the most effective way to contact
them.
3. Use
these talking points to help you make the most of
your conversation.
4. Write
a letter and mail or fax it to your legislator's office.
Use the following sample letters to guide you: short
letter or long
letter
5. No matter how you contact your legislator, be sure to
inform him/her that you are a voter who lives in his or
her district.
6. Please e-mail us at info@supportfloridaforever.org when
you've contacted your legislator and whether he or she
indicated
support
for increased funding
to Florida Forever.

Additional Guidelines for Contacting Legislators
1. Be Poignant — Letter should be personal,
brief, concise and it is best to address only one issue.
2. Be Direct — State your purpose for writing in
the first paragraph. If you are a voter in his/her district,
state this as well.
3. Support Your Position — Include personal information
about how this bill effects you, factual data or examples
when necessary to support your view. Use campaign talking
points.
4. Be Timely — Make sure you are up-to-date on an
issue and mail your response as soon as possible.
5. Be Open — Be sure to include contact information
and feel free to ask for a written response. You can offer
to talk more about the issue by phone or in-person.
6. State Your Appreciation — Thank them for their
time, consideration or support.
Be Proactive — Get involved early on an issue, rather
than waiting.
